Embracing Autumn: Letting Go of What's Holding You and Your Business Back as a Creative Entrepreneur
As the vibrant colors of autumn begin to emerge, we’re reminded of the natural rhythm of change and release. The trees shed their leaves, animals prepare for hibernation, and the world around us gently slows down, retreating into a quieter, more reflective state. Nature’s cues invite us to do the same—to let go of what no longer serves us, so we can create space for what truly matters.
Yet, in the fast-paced world of online business, there’s often pressure to do the opposite. Instead of slowing down, there’s a flurry of activity: launching courses, starting new projects, and pushing ourselves harder. But is this really what we need?
For sensitive, creative entrepreneurs like you—women who rebel against the status quo and seek to grow ethical businesses—there’s power in aligning with the natural cycles of the seasons. Autumn offers us a unique opportunity to pause, reflect, and let go. It’s a time to clear the clutter, not just in our physical surroundings, but in our mindset, actions, relationships, and business systems.
Let’s explore how you can use this time of year to release what’s no longer serving you, using the four quadrants of Integral Theory as your guide.
Quadrant 1: Thoughts and Mindset—Letting Go of Limiting Beliefs
The first place to begin is with your thoughts. Our inner world—our beliefs, emotions, and stories—has a profound impact on how we show up in our businesses. Often, we’re not even fully aware of the limiting beliefs that hold us back because they’re buried deep in our subconscious.
Take a moment to reflect: What stories are you telling yourself about your business? Are you carrying the weight of thoughts like, “I’m not good enough” or “I’ll never be successful”? These stories can feel so ingrained that they become automatic, shaping the way you approach your work and your goals.
In my own journey, I’ve found that when something doesn’t go as planned, my mind immediately rushes to shame. I physically feel myself shrinking—my shoulders hunch, my belly tightens, and I retreat into a smaller version of myself. This response is my body’s way of telling me that I’m feeling vulnerable, exposed, and in need of comfort.
But here’s the truth: Awareness is the first step to letting go. By simply noticing the thoughts and physical sensations that arise when things don’t go as expected, you can begin to release the hold they have on you. Give yourself permission to feel what you’re feeling without judgment, and then gently let it go. This season, ask yourself: What limiting beliefs can I release to create more space for growth?
Quadrant 2: Actions and Behavior—Letting Go of Misaligned Habits
Now let’s move to the second quadrant—your actions. What are the things you’re doing that no longer serve you? Perhaps you’ve developed habits that feel comfortable but are no longer aligned with your true desires.
As a creative entrepreneur, you might find yourself saying “yes” to opportunities out of obligation, even when every part of your being is screaming “no.” Maybe you’re overcommitting yourself because you don’t want to disappoint others, or because you fear missing out on potential business growth.
But here’s the thing: Every time you say yes to something that doesn’t feel right, you’re saying no to something that could be more aligned with your vision. This is the perfect time to reflect on your actions and let go of the ones that don’t honor your truest self.
What if you allowed yourself to say no more often? What if you trusted that by releasing the things that don’t feel aligned, you would create space for more authentic opportunities? Consider: What actions or behaviors can I let go of to honor my true desires and energy?
Quadrant 3: Relationships and Community—Letting Go of Draining Connections
The third quadrant focuses on relationships and community. As an entrepreneur, your connections—both personal and professional—play a significant role in your journey. But not all relationships are supportive or aligned with your values.
Autumn invites us to take a closer look at the people in our lives. Are there relationships that leave you feeling drained, diminished, or disconnected from your true self? Perhaps there are people who don’t fully understand your vision or who make you question your worth.
It’s important to remember that letting go of relationships doesn’t always mean cutting ties completely. Instead, it might look like setting boundaries, having difficult but necessary conversations, or simply spending less time with people who don’t uplift you.
Ask yourself: Who in my life supports my vision, and who holds me back? This is a time to gently release the relationships that no longer serve your growth, making room for connections that inspire, support, and empower you.
Quadrant 4: Systems and Structures—Letting Go of Unnecessary Clutter
Finally, we arrive at the fourth quadrant: systems and structures. This is the foundation that holds your business together—the processes, tools, and frameworks that support your day-to-day operations. But as your business grows, it’s easy for these systems to become cluttered, outdated, or misaligned with your current needs.
Take a moment to audit your business systems. Do you have subscriptions or tools you no longer use? Are there processes that feel clunky or inefficient? This is the perfect time to streamline, simplify, and let go of anything that’s no longer serving you.
Letting go of unnecessary clutter in your business not only saves time and money but also creates space for more flow and ease. It might mean canceling unused subscriptions, updating your workflow, or adopting new tools that better align with how you want to work.
Ask yourself: What systems or structures can I release to create more flow in my business? By clearing out what’s no longer needed, you can set the stage for more aligned, sustainable growth.
Embracing the Power of Letting Go
Letting go can be challenging, especially for sensitive, creative entrepreneurs who tend to hold onto things out of love, loyalty, or fear of the unknown. But autumn reminds us that release is a natural, necessary part of growth. Just as the trees shed their leaves to make room for new growth in the spring, we too must let go of what no longer serves us to create space for the new.
As you move through this season, I invite you to embrace the power of letting go—whether it’s limiting beliefs, misaligned actions, draining relationships, or outdated systems. By doing so, you’re not only creating space for more aligned opportunities, but you’re also honoring the natural rhythms of life and business.
And remember, you don’t have to do this alone. Surround yourself with a community that understands your journey, supports your vision, and uplifts your spirit. Together, we can navigate this season of release and prepare for the abundance that’s waiting on the other side.
